The Labour government
is routed in the local and European elections. Worst result since
1918, apparently. The European vote is dominated by the rise
and rise of the UK Independence Party; a motley crew of celebs,
little Englanders and xenophobes, led by Joan Collins and Robert
Kilroy-Silk. Michael Howard's Tories are torn as to whether they
should be going gung-ho for European withdrawal or staying in,
but on the sidelines. This all coincides with England's usual
campaign of missed penalties and deportations in Portugal at
Euro 04. [After "Liberty Leading the People" by Delacroix]
