In a fit of principled madness, Tory shadow Home Secretary David Davis resigns his post on the issue of the 42 days imprisonment without trial for terrorists proposed by the Labour government. Yes, that's right; he resigns as opposition spokesman against a government policy. This is a new twist to adversarial politics, and indeed a new twist to logic itself. Neither Labour and the LibDems field a candidate, so he has to stand against a rag-tag collection of loonies and self-pubicists, all colluding to make him look even odder than them. A man of principle de nos jours, no doubt.
