J K Rowling come to the
temporary aid of the beleaguered Gordon Brown and the in-the-red
Labour Party with a cheque for a million quid. Simutaneously,
Charles Clarke seizes the moment to enact his Blairite plot of
destabilising Brown ahead of this week's Labour Conference. Brown
still looks weak, but as yet, unbroken. He needs to have A Good
Conference.
