The government reveals plans for early intervention in the rapidly increasing problem of Alzheimer's disease in the ageing population. These will involve memory tests. Gordon Brown, meanwhile, is suffering because of his 2007 speech promising "British jobs for British workers". Serious protests against imported foreign labour for British construction projects carry on, about which Gordon can do nothing. Does he recall this unfortunate speech? Or indeed his oft-spouted promise "No return to boom and bust" and others?
