Gordon Brown tells police
forces to keep officers on the beat in an effort to increase
the public's confidence in law and order. He also attacks the
Conservatives for ''abusing'' the crime statistics in order to
create ''a public sense of panic'' ove rthe fear of crime. This
all comes just after an embarrassinf episode wher the PM is accused
of being a bully to his colleagues.
